Walking into JAW FENG Machinery, We Saw the Future of Taiwan's Packaging Industry
The moment we stepped into JAW FENG Machinery, we were greeted by a lush green landscape and a striking modern building, its diamond-shaped glass façade gleaming in the sunlight. The brightness poured into the immaculate lobby floor, setting the tone for what would become a conversation about the future—with Mr. Kuo, Chairman of the Taiwan Packaging Association.
When we talk about packaging today, we’re no longer just referring to boxes and plastic films. Packaging has become a strategic battleground where supply chain restructuring, sustainability transformation, and global competitiveness converge. And the 2025 Taipei Pack is set to become Taiwan’s industrial calling card to the world.
Repositioning Taipei Pack: From Tech Showcase to Industry Connector
“The 2025 Taipei International Packaging Industry Show will be more than just a stage for showcasing technology—it will be a bridge between Taiwan’s industries and global markets,” said Chairman Kuo with conviction.
The Association envisions elevating the show into Asia’s most influential platform for packaging integration, demonstrating Taiwan’s strengths in smart manufacturing, sustainable packaging, and systems integration.
This year’s exhibition focuses on two key themes: food packaging and smart manufacturing. As global consumers demand higher standards for food safety, carbon footprint management, and traceability, packaging is no longer merely a protective layer. It has evolved into an expression of brand identity and a commitment to sustainability. Meanwhile, the integration of smart manufacturing—from raw material handling to quality control and logistics—reinforces the packaging value chain and boosts industry competitiveness.
Strengthening Taiwan’s Regional Ties Through APAC
Chairman Kuo emphasized that Taiwan’s packaging industry, composed primarily of agile and adaptable SMEs, has gained a strategic edge amid global supply chain reconfiguration. Yet, challenges persist—ranging from limited resources for digital transformation and reliance on imported materials, to concentrated export markets and Taiwan’s unique international status.
In response, the Association has been actively driving transformation. By leveraging government support and promoting participation in international exhibitions, it helps local companies adopt smart manufacturing and expand market presence through strategic visibility.
Highlighting cross-border collaboration, Chairman Kuo underscored the establishment of the Asia Packaging Associations’ Club (hereinafter referred to as APAC). “Under the leadership of former Chairman Liao, we co-founded APAC with Japan and South Korea in 2023. India has since joined, and we aim to expand to Thailand, Vietnam, and Australia.”
The upcoming APAC General Meeting will take place in Taipei during the show. Delegations from Japan and Korea will attend, signaling not just industry exchange, but also Taiwan’s determination and leadership in global collaboration. Through this platform, Taiwan fosters shared standards, technical alignment, and information exchange with neighboring countries—transforming possibilities for transnational cooperation into actionable momentum.
Smart and Sustainable: The Road Ahead
From reducing excessive packaging and optimizing preservation to minimizing production waste, Taiwan’s packaging industry has already begun shifting toward greener production models. Smart machinery plays a pivotal role in achieving low-carbon goals.
While Taiwan excels in intelligent packaging systems and integrated production lines, it still relies heavily on imported high-performance materials. Building up domestic R&D capabilities and advancing academia-industry collaboration will be key to long-term growth.
Looking ahead, the Association’s strategic vision centers around three pillars: sustainability, intelligence, and internationalization. By integrating technology, fostering global exchange, and aligning with policy support, it aims to lead the industry into a more resilient and competitive future.
From Supporting Role to Industry Leader—Taiwan Is Ready
Chairman Kuo closed the conversation with a forward-looking note:
“Packaging should be more than just a functional necessity—it should reflect a company’s sustainable philosophy in tangible form.”
In the decade to come, Taiwan will no longer play a supporting role at the end of the global manufacturing chain. Instead, it is positioning itself as a driving force—powered by innovative design, green materials, and smart production.
Through international platforms like APAC, Taiwan will continue forging regional partnerships and stepping confidently into the global market—with sustainability as both its compass and commitment.
