Successful Case in Vietnam – Achieving Goals Together from Product Design to Technical Development

 

To address common usage issues with existing cup lids and optimize design to expand business opportunities, CLF worked with their customer to develop a retractable cup lid. After discussing new ideas with the technical team, CLF's professional R&D team recommended the customer use a two-color injection molding machine. The usual two-color injection process requires the first shot's material temperature to be higher than the second shot to prevent erosion and blending issues. However, this situation posed challenges due to the mold's inclined plate design, leading to an oversized mold, extended production cycles, and the need for larger injection molding machines, increasing production costs and hindering new product and market development.

But how did they overcome these challenges?

After thorough research, CLF's R&D team adopted an unconventional approach by using different raw materials: TPR for the first injection and PP for the second injection. This innovative direction, previously unthought of by the customer, overcame technical challenges and enhanced process efficiency. Using a two-shot injection molding machine with two separate injection units, the first injection unit injects TPR into the mold cavity, while the second injection unit injects PP on top of the first material. Through continuous trials and tests, they improved mold design, enhanced machine capabilities, and selected the appropriate breathable film for processing, ultimately achieving stable production. The system features an 8 cavity, two-color injection process with rotary table operation, completing each cycle within 8 seconds.

Highly Customized Four-Color Injection Molding Machine Meets Customer Needs and Enhances Strength

 

CLF's applications in the injection molding field mainly involve automotive parts like car bumpers and mats, hardware items like large trash cans, and 3C products. Another notable case is their collaboration with Taiwan's leading car lamp manufacturer, where CLF developed and successfully produced Taiwan's first highly customized four-color injection molding machine.

 

Requirements from Taiwan's Largest Car Lamp Manufacturer:

1. The clamping force is higher than 1600 tons.
2. The diameter of the rotation table is higher than 2200 mm.
3. The three-color injection machine length shall be shorter than a 1600-ton model.
4. The customized injection machine must be capable of handling production with two- to four-color mold. That means the machine can opertate with 180-/120-/90-degree rotation tables.
5. The location of the fourth color injection base is selectable.
6. The distance between the first and the second injection can be moved within a range.

 

Based on these requirements, CLF developed a highly customized four-color injection molding machine. To shorten the machine length, they adopted a two-platen clamping system, considering the mold’s loading capacity and rotation design limitations, developing a special design to control the rotation table sinking distance to a minimal value. Additionally, they ensured the customer could freely program to produce two-color, three-color, and four-color molds according to their requirements.

This highly customized four-color injection molding machine was completed by CLF's professional team within six months, covering all steps from R&D, mold manufacturing, casting, processing assembly, to testing. The T0 test successfully produced the customer's new mold products, fully meeting customer requirements and achieving success.
