TPE, TPR, TPU Materials Explained | PRM What to Say EP12
TPE, TPR, TPU Materials Explained | PRM What to Say EP12

In this episode, we will open a special page for TPU and TPE, TPR materials. Because there are several common confusions about them. Then, let’s understand the differences and fields of application of those innovative materials together. 【TPE/TPR】 Both TPE(Thermoplastic Elastomer) and TPR(Thermoplastic Rubber) belong to the family of Thermoplastic Elastomers, and there isn’t a defined industry standard to distinguish them. But, it is certain that TPE is made from SEBS, while TPR is made from SBS block copolymers. [TPE/TPR Applications] TPE/TPRs are great for anywhere that flexibility, comfort, or cost savings are needed. They are a top choice for medical applications like surgical and dental tubing and also tubing used in the food/beverage industry. 【TPU】 TPU(Thermoplastic polyurethane ) is a soft polyether type polyurethane that is available in a range of hardness grades, which gives a diverse application range to TPU. There are two main types based on soft segment chemistry: Polyester-based TPUs, and Polyether-based TPUs. [TPU Applications] With their resistance properties, TPU is superior for use anywhere that ozone, extreme temperatures, and high levels of abrasion are a concern. In addition to medical uses, TPU is also a popular material for sporting goods, tubing, wire, protective coatings, and more. All those materials above are alternatives for natural rubber and are easy to manufacture. Moreover, those materials can be 100% recycled.

With stringent standards for surface treatment, we minimize the risk of retention and degradation to the greatest extent and eliminate unnecessary raw material waste. We adopt the most suitable design solutions to provide our customers with the best experience.   Customized Design Experience of experts with advanced technology   The flow channels for the melt are constructed through the combination of the latest technological calculations and years of accumulated experience. The melt is maintained at just the right production pressure and temperature within the mold. With sufficient overlaps, the die head ensures that as the plastic melt exits the die gap, it achieves optimal uniformity in thickness and strength.   Progress with customer Never-ending development of new product   As technology is developing real fast, we keep developing blown film technology for new materials, faster than the anybody in this field. We have developed equipment for masking film, product protect film, medical TPU film due to customer's demands. Our goal is to stay at the forefront of the industry with our customers. Now, Horng Tair Group continues to develop new products in the fields of medical film, electronics packaging, food packaging, and daily necessities, providing all the know-hows came from rich experience and advanced technologies to the customers.   Cost reduction of blowing film Reduce raw material degradation risk & Save a time of changing raw material   Through the minimum contact surface and smooth turning angle in the flow channel, self-cleaning effect is increased and the risk of stagnation is eliminated. Thereby, using Horng Tair Die can reduce the time to complete material change and maintain the lowest operating energy consumption. Because Horng Tair pursues excellent smoothness of die channel surface, a special surface pre-treatment department was established to maximize the effect of surface coating and make every step of polishing careful and perfect. This effort of Horng Tair makes Horng Tair Die avoid the pipe effects and reduce cleaning frequency.   High reliability Excellent durability of the die head   The high quality of Horng Tair Die Heads come from persistence in the selecting materials and heat treatment processes, which are complex and time-consuming. This makes them less susceptible to deformation due to metal fatigue and helps maintaining good thickness tolerances. Due to the structure with additional strength, and the design for the minimal pressure loss, which is achievable through calculation, the damage of the die head surface would be minimized to the greatest extent, and the service life of the die can be extended.
