InterPlas Thailand 2024 Reinforced Sustainability & Beyond for ASEAN’s Plastics Community

During 19-22 June 2024, InterPlas Thailand, ASEAN’s Most Comprehensive Exhibition on Technologies for Plastics Manufacturing organized by RX Tradex had concluded its 31st edition with 83,600 participants from across ASEAN, and highlighted the show’s position as the region’s only event that is truly dedicated to the sustainable plastics manufacturing.

InterPlas Thailand 2024 was a part of “Manufacturing Expo” - ASEAN's Most Comprehensive Show for Manufacturing and Supporting Industries which consisted of 7 niche trade exhibitions that serve a vast range of manufacturing sectors from sustainable plastics production, mold & die making and maintenance, automotive parts manufacturing, industrial automation & robots, surface treatment and coatings, electronics, to facility management. Throughout the four show days, participants were fascinated by technological offers from 2,000 brands from 30 countries, international pavilions from China, Japan, Korea, Singapore, and Taiwan, as well as over 50 seminar topics designed to help them accelerate business opportunities and potential.

Nowadays, many regions around the world are implementing new plastic curbs. For example, the European Union has reset a target to incorporate 25% of recycled plastic in PET beverage bottles from 2025, and 30% in all plastic beverage bottles from 2030.

In the case of Thailand, there is an initiative by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environment to ban the import of plastic scraps by 2025 and a roadmap to recycle plastic waste by 100% by 2027. These regulations cover a wide range of plastic products including single-use plastics, disposable cutlery, and packaging materials. The objective is to reduce plastic waste, promote recycling and protect the environment and marine life.

As a part of InterPlas Thailand’s initiative to promote sustainability, as well as a pre-show activity to inform plastics industrialists about the event that would be organized in the latter half of June, RX Tradex had organized Plastics Forum under the theme of “Reshaping Plastics Industry towards Sustainability” ****in April of 2024 at The Bangkok International Trade and Exhibition Centre (BITEC). The forum was a great success as hundreds of attendees from within the plastics manufacturing and relevant industries came to listen to the panel speakers who were representatives of the government agencies and private organizations, many of whom were involved in the development of Thailand’s plastics policies and future direction.

During the actual InterPlas Thailand exhibition on 19-22 June, in addition to the showcase of over 300 brands of machinery, technologies, chemicals, raw materials, and beyond to serve plastics manufacturers from the widest array of sectors including packaging, food and beverage, automotive, cosmetics, medical device, and furniture among others, a special zone named “Sustainovation Showcase” was created as a feature to introduce bioplastic materials, eco technologies, and valuable advice from experts in the field to demonstrate creative ways that plastic products can be manufactured sustainably. One notable example came from Thaiworldware Polyproducts, Thailand’s leading supplier of single-use plastics cutlery to large-scale restaurants and conglomerate franchises which proudly introduced Biotransformation as the revolutionary biodegradable material that leaves no microplastics in the environment.

On top of the technology showcase and demonstration, participants were also offered business matching services as well as Emperia application which enabled the exchange of contact between buyers and sellers digitally without the need for business cards, hence reducing carbon footprint while substantiating RX Tradex’s endeavor to promote greener exhibition.
